I personally have several issues with running Windows period, but especially with running Windows on bare metal.

I actually even already had a second GPU when I bought the 3090, a 5700 XT, and I sold it instead of setting up dual-GPU, because of the reasons I've already mentioned. Forgetting the fact that it's almost impossible to even get a second 3090 or even a 3080, 6800 XT or 6900 XT, to me it's incredibly stupid to buy a whole second high-end GPU for one game, and I don't want to have drastically different experiences in one OS vs the other, plus I'm at 1440p and 165Hz, so I can't just go with something much weaker in Windows.

Currently there is exactly one game that I need Windows for, and that's Apex Legends. I do almost all my gaming on Linux, as I think everyone here should. But if you're talking single-GPU, there are definitely less benefits over dual-booting, but there still are plenty, especially for people with specific use-cases.įor example, I have a high-end (I guess pretty much top of the line) gaming rig, with 32GB of DDR4-3600, a Ryzen 7 5800X, and an EVGA XC3 Ultra RTX 3090 GPU, on an X570 Taichi w/ 3TB of NVME and 2TB of SATA SSD storage. With dual-GPU, there are a shitload of benefits, and really no downsides (aside from not being able to play the games that block VMs of course).

It depends on if you're talking about regular dual-GPU passthrough or single-GPU passthrough.
